Waiting for the ring

There will never be enough of shoes and accessories in a wardrobe of a lady. Is there anyone who could contradict? I don’t think so. It is a privilege, necessity and a pleasure for ladies (as well as for men) to perk up. Everyone who has at least a tiny sense of style can play with accessories and surprise with a new look each time. My favourite of all the accessories is a ring. Does it mean that I am waiting for an engagement ring from my one and only? Or does it mean that I’m seeking for power and fame?

The history of ring has started in the ancient Egypt. Already back then it was believed that the “artery of love” begins at the ring-finger and goes straight to the heart. That is why the wedding band is worn on this particular finger. The more luxurious and fancy the ring – the better it was. The tradition of giving a ring to the partner on the wedding day originated in the Ancient Greece. The iron or bronze ring used to be a symbol of the strength of marital ties. The emergence of Christianity didn’t manage to supplant this tradition and the wedding band exchange is now known as one of the main sacraments of the Church. A bishops or higher-ranking priests also used to wear rings, which used to be either of authority for clerics or as some other special religious symbol. Such religious rings were called Episcopal rings. Signet rings used to show the dependence to some particular family or organization. Even the kings or generals used to wear rings as symbols of power, authority and strong arms. Signet rings might bear a family coat of arms, and it therefore can be used to imprint a wax seal. Some signet rings have engraved initials of the wearer and can are known as an initial rings. Therefore, the ring is not just a sign of style and fashion it is also a special in its meaning decoration.

There are a lot of types of rings designed for different occasions, indicating some particular profession or estate or simply different in their texture, size and decorations. Engagement rings are usually solitaire rings with the diamond gemstones and are given as a sign for a woman by a man to meaning her engagement to be married. Wedding rings are also called wedding bands are presented in a marriage ceremony and signifies marital commitment. Wedding bands unlike the engagement rings are worn by both partners. Toe rings are mostly worn by Indian women who are married, however, nowadays this type of rings is becoming more and more popular among young ladies around the world.

There are also some interesting types of rings such as purity rings, worn as symbols of virginity, poison rings, having a hidden container, usually in a bezel, with poison in it. There are also cocktail rings, which became popular around ninety forties and ninety fifties, and were worn when going to cocktail parties. You can tell cocktail ring by the single oversized stone and surrounding tiny stones. Cocktail rings, cluster rings or dinner rings are the same type of rings – with a large centre gemstone it makes a perfect final touch to an overall look.

Massive rings are my weakness. It doesn’t really matter if it has a green, blue or black inlaid stone or is it a huge flower, lips, cherries, owl, skull or other figurine. It can be either square, oval or triangle in shape, decorated with sparkles and glitters or with a tiny mirrors or paintings – it doesn’t matter. I love all the massive rings. The most important for me – it should be seen from far away. And although I sometimes try really hard to match it with my overall look, it sometimes happens that the ring simply drops out of the context. But the result is then even better!

In case you are not afraid of risks, try wearing two massive rings on one hand simultaneously – you will definitely get noticed.

Want to kill two birds with one stone? Not literary of course and without using your ring with the stone 🙂 If you say yes then try wearing a double finger ring. These are two rings connected into one ring and worn on two fingers. Every time I see such ring it reminds me of Snoop Dogg and a recent story with rapper 2 Chainz, who was arrested by the security at the LaGuardia airport for having a four-finger ring in his Louis Vuitton bag 🙂 It was suspected to be a brass knuckles, which might be used as a weapon.

Double finger rings

If you are not too keen on wearing massive rings, there are still plenty of options for you. Decorate your fingers with subtle and interesting rings – either with a small but bright eye, a shiny little bow, leather flower or with your initials. Maybe you would love having a ring wrapped around your finger as a snake or a leaf? It can cover your whole finger as well as cover only the part up to the first joint of your finger. A few parts of the ring connected with a chain look even more unique and gives you a look of a saucy girl.

Still haven’t found your type of ring? There is one more type I want to mention. Wear a multiple rings on one finger. It will create an especially subtle look. The ring doesn’t necessarily have to be of the same kind, but it should somehow complement the other ring. Celebrities love mixing and matching different rings on the same finger. It’s your choice whether it will be different ornaments, stones or colours.

Multiple rings

The ring topic is inexhaustible, the variety of their shapes, designs and styles is immense and there is a great selection for even most whimsical tastes. But let’s just keep it for the future posts 🙂
